Using the Right Cables at the Office or Home

A wide variety of electronic devices are used today, and while some laptops and smart phones are used wirelessly on the go, many others are used with cables. In fact, in some respects, using HDMI cables, Ethernet cables like cat5 cables, or bulk USB cables are preferable to wireless technology, and in some cases, cables like HDMI cables are a necessity. For many modern American offices, cables are essential, since many computers are being used in that office space, and wireless signals would interfere with each other. Instead, desktop PCs in the office make use of many cables to get connected to the Internet and the office’s data center securely and easily for the transmission of data. And at home, a person may use HDMI cables, USB cables, and more to create a home entertainment system that suits their preferences. Some American employees create their own home office to work remotely, and that means cables, too.

Cables at Home

Many modern American homes will have more cables than just the electrical cords for the toaster or a vacuum cleaner. Now, in the 21st century, electronic items such as laptops, desktop PCs, tablets, video game consoles, and digital projectors are used, and these items need to get connected to each other and sometimes, to an Internet router, too. A person will use wireless technology on the go, such as laptop at a coffee shop or a smart phone while walking, but at home, cables are the standard. For example, a person may connect a video game console to a TV with HDMI cables for high-def visuals, or they might connect a laptop to their digital projector to create an image on the wall. Meanwhile, setups like these will also include speakers plugged into the game console or laptop for sound. All of these devices, not to mention Blu-Ray players or DVD players, will be connected to each other with the correct cables. The only real limit to a home entertainment system is the compatibility of all devices involved.

Many American employees are now working remotely from home, and this means they set up a home office to stay connected. These remote employees set up a desktop PC and use Ethernet cables, such as cat5 or cat6 cables to plug it into a home router for a solid Internet connection. With this, a remote employee can send and receive emails, access the company’s Cloud data storage, and even conduct live video chat sessions as needed. And of course, cables allow a home employee to plug in a printer and scanner, should they need those items.

Cables in the Office

In a modern office, many computers and cables are to be found. IT professionals will set up all the desktop PCs and plug them into the router with Ethernet cables, and also plug these computers into the company’s data center on-site. Most often, either cat5 or cat6 cables will be used to connect the work PCs to a router for a solid Internet connection, and these cables may be threaded discreetly throughout the office so they aren’t a tripping hazard. Holes can be drilled into the floor for more cable access.

What is a data server? For those not aware, a data server is a room containing several specialized racks that house hundreds, if not thousands, of computers that are connected by cables to form a single entity. This whole entity will have enormous storage space inside it, and any PC plugged into this data server will be able to access it and any other computer plugged into that data server. What is more, those desktop PCs will enjoy boosted processing speed as long as they are plugged into the data center. It may be noted, though, that the computers in a data server are not meant to be used as desktop PCs, and indeed they don’t even have keyboards, monitors, or computer mice plugged into them.

A data server is a private and secure way for all work computers to stay connected and share files with ease, and cables make that possible. In fact, many companies integrate their Internet Cloud data storage with their data server to form a hybrid that is convenient for both on-site and remote employees.
